Artist Roel Hofman

St

Roel Hofman was born on May 14th, 1956 in Rotterdam, theNetherlands. At a very young age he was fascinated by drawing and painting.

At the age of 16 he was apprenticed to the Rotterdam painter Cornelis Witters.

Following this, he became teacher of drawing and painting at the Academy in Spijkenisse. In the 1990s Roel opened a gallery and started a business lending art. From this time forward, ART has been his life. To gain inspiration, hestays several times a year in France. While resting and relaxing, surrounded by beautiful nature, new paintings and ideas came about.Although he began with drawing, his love of painting came quickly. In thebeginning, he painted mostly in the traditional style. Thereafter he changed his style to what can be described as magical realism orsurrealism. Over time, he developed his own style, which is now clearly recognisable. For him, the most important element of his paintings is colour. It is the colour in his paintings that most viewers react to instinctively. "L'émotionen couleur" ("emotion in colour”) is his focus at the moment. The women in his paintings are a symbol for emotion, feeling, strength and vulnerability.

Roel wants to touch people unconsciously with colours, pleasant associations and through the viewing of his paintings bring some pleasure to the lives of people. Meanwhile, his work can be seen in national and international exhibitions, galleries and Companies.

arted with drawing, his partial to painting came already rapidly. In his beginning years, he painted mostly in the traditional style. Afterwards he changed on magical realism and surrealism. Gradually he developed his own style, which is clearly recognisable.

In his vision is the use of colour in a painting, one of the most important elements. That is the first on which most of the people react instinctiveley. This element is clearly in his paintings.

“L’emotion en couleur” are his topic of this moment. With the woman al as symbol for emotion, feeling, strength and vulnerability, he tries to give expressiveness to his paintings. Which are reflections of emotions and feelings, which occupy him or fascinate him. Roel wants to touch people unconsciously with colours, pleasant associations and by the irradiation of his paintings bringing a piece of pleasure in the life of people.
